Have you ever seen cooking utensils, which look like wire netting? Such wire netting utensils were designed in Kyoto and have been used for many years for cooking of Kyoto’s amazing cuisine. Kanaami-Tsuji is a wire netting firm located in Kyoto that tries to preserve the craft: it created the ways for using a wire net in modern day living.
The firm cooperated with nendo in creation of a pendant light – a Basket-Light – with the help of this technique. The light of the lamp passes through a hand-made shade, imprinting soft wavy patterns on the ceiling.
This idea with the shadows on the ceiling wasn’t really new – they inspired by the shadow that is created by blocks of tofu lifting from boiling water when Kyoto creates one of his famous dishes – yudofu.
