As a rule, the main problem of space planning is a small area of the room. It requires setting up sleeping areas, storage, shelves for toy cars collections, stickers and a game zone.
If there is a small age gap between your kids, you can simplify the decoration task by asking them about their wishes. For instance, this can be a hunting lodge design or a room for auto race lovers. If you have no concrete idea or there are controversies about that, consider your kids’ favorite colors. It would hardly be one and the same shade but you can easily play up the idea with several color solutions.
Don’t forget that children’s preferences change quickly and in a few years Spiderman’s feats will seem so small compared with heroic deeds of Ironman. To avoid making global renovation every two years use thematic posters, stickers or elements of the interior that can be easily replaced with new ones.
Lighting in a nursery plays a very important role. Use natural light by maximum and curtain the windows with thin gardenias. If there isn’t enough of light from the windows, use more lamps. Pay special attention to lighting of the playing and working zones.
For flooring use practical materials that are not easily soiled as there is always much garbage in nurseries. And don’t forget that smooth and slippery floor can become the reason of injuries.
Furniture for nursery must be made of moisture resistant and high-quality materials. They mustn’t have any sharp corners and prominent parts.
If you have kids of different ages, the task gets more complicated. In this case separate the working area of the senior son from the playing area of the junior one. Even if this separation would be conditional – a kid will feel himself comfortable in his private space.
No matter how small the room is, each kid has to have his own sleeping place. Don’t put the kids onto one sofa. Better arrange the beds along the walls. This offers the boys equal conditions and leaves more space for working and playing areas.
The furniture market also offers sliding beds where one sleeping place slide in and out of the other one.
If your kids are more than five years old, buy many-tier beds. And don’t forget about module constructions with joint cabinets, beds and shelves.
Talking about privacy of space, one should note that each kid must have this own storage place. To avoid struggle for the most comfortable shelf, purchase a chest of drawers for each of the kids. If you don’t have such opportunity, just divide the cabinet and paint each kid’s area with his favorite color.
Open shelves is another constituent of the nursery interior. Boys will be happy to keep their paintings, robot collections, cars and helicopters visible.
In nurseries children not only relax but read, do lessons, and draw as well. It is great when each kid has his own table. If there is no such opportunity, use one table, divide the places by partition and paint each of them by the kids’ favorite colors. Note that a round table helps avoiding struggle for the best place.
But don’t delimit the game space. A common playing territory will unite children and favor their organic development. Use the entire useful area for training simulators and a sport wall. Kids must channel their energy somewhere.
A modern room can’t be without various gadgets. A perfect set for a nursery is a small T.V. and computers. Installation of a tuner to the monitor allows refusing T.V. at all.
