Initially resistant, she decides her best chance to win Sebastian’s approval and love is to become the lady he challenges her to be. He gives her an extremely severe beating and just when he is about to rape her, Moorland and some of his staff rescue her. Of course Jewel now renamed Juliaand the Earl are attracted to each other.
The book is well written, the scenes are vividly described and the characters come to life on the page. Jewel aka Juliais seventeen and lives her life as a petty criminal life among the London slums. It made me almost tears.
The ending was lovihg and the hero is so wonderful to Julia in the end that it almost makes up for his behavior. Published December 1st by Grand Central Publishing. But instead he accepts her into the family to spite his icy, unloving mother, on the condition that Jewel let him turn her into Julia Stratham, lady of the town. Who could not love Jewel, aka Julia, as she fights to survive and the cool earl who thinks to shape her to his liking?

When reading older romances I think its important to remember the publication date and the standard romance of that time and this one illustrates the sweeping epics of the eighties. Robagds first book was a ten-page effort written at age five for my grandmother. Keeping in mind that this book was written in the mid-eighties, the main characters go through the requisite love-em-hate-em-love-em-again struggle that was so popular in historical romance.
It’s been on my shelf since the day I juliq it back in the 80’s. The fact that she disliked the violence and only participated on several occasions doesn’t lessen her guilt in luring a man to his death. One thing leads to another and he takes her virginity. Lovign, what a concept — a hero and heroine who have time to get to know each other before ripping off their clothing.
Jewel had kept her virginity amid England’s roughest men, yet iaren this devastatingly handsome lord lowered his mouth to her burning flesh, an irresistible fire consumed her and even if he called her wanton, she vowed to be the lady he loved tonight But as they lie in bed afterwards, she slaps him again then proceeds to throw things and call names. Sebastien is a typical 80s hero — arrogant, disapproving, and somewhere north of the Ju,ia circle emotionally.
While he looks at Jewel with disdain, he decides to make Jewel a project and turn her into a lady to spite his cruel mother. More like Hating Julia. Therein there follows a My Fair Lady esque transformation which takes place over a number of months.
I liked how feisty she was and I really enjoyed her characters personal growth. Books by Karen Robards.
It was published by Leisure Books in and is still in print. Loving Julia Karen Robards. I think this was another one of those cases where the angst is never really felt because too much is going on and too quickly.
To picture Julia as likable was beyond my capability. Opening the iTunes Store. As other reviewers have said the author takes her time in respect of character development and lets things happen at a more natural pace.
